AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—On March 6, the SGPC appointed three member investigation committee submitted its report to the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh in relation to Sirsa Cult’s support to the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal. Notably, the three member investigation committee comprising SGPC’s senior vice president Bhai Baldev Singh Qaimpuri, General Secretary Bhai Amarjit Singh Chawla and executive member Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal was constituted on February 6 by the SGPC on the directions of Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh.
After handing over the report to Giani Gurbachan Singh, SGPC’s General Secretary Bhai Amarjit Singh Chawla said it was not an easy task for them to as the role of all three mainstream party leaders was to be probed in all 117 assembly constituencies. He added that they have performed their duty and now it’s upto Akal Takht Jathedar to take action against guilty leaders.
On being asked about the details of report submitted, Bhai Amarjit Singh Chawla refused to share details terming it as a sensitive issue.
SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar said that the content of report will be discussed in a meeting of five Takht Jathedars after Hola Mohalla.
Meanwhile, reliable sources have informed that the probing committee has enlisted more than 40 leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal, Congress and AAP for violating the Akal Takht’s edict directing Sikh masses to socially boycott Sirsa cult chief and his followers.
The row had erupted after the Sirsa cult authorities had announced to support the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal in the assembly polls on February 1. In turn, the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal had announced to lift ban over Sirsa cult’s congregations in Punjab. The move had left the Sikh masses outraged resulting in sharp criticism of ruling Shiromani Akali Dal all over the world.
Unless we have leaders in SGPC who believe in sikh religion and Guru Granth Sahib ji only and nothing else all these edicts and inquiries are worthless.
