Supreme Court Also Stops Jagir Kaur Running In Elections

NEW DELHI, India—The Supreme Court of India refused to entertain a plea moved by ex-SGPC President and presiding Bholath legislator for Badal’s Akali party, Jagir Kaur, yesterday, in seeking a stay on her conviction.

The Punjab & Haryana High Court had also rejected the plea of Bibi Jagir Kaur only two days ago but Jagir Kaur’s lawyers have had t go through the lower courts before working the way up the judicial system.

Refusing to entertain Jagir Kaur’s plea of challenging the Punjab & Haryana High Court’s verdict, the Supreme Court’s bench comprising of Justices AK Goel and UU Lalit said that she couldn’t be given a stay on conviction as she has been held guilty under criminal charges in her daughter’s murder.

With the rejection of the plea, Jagir Kaur has become ineligible to nominate for the assembly polls on February 4.
