Gurpreet Singh had assumed the post of Executive President of the ruling SAD’s district unit of Amritsar (Urban) after Upkar Singh Sandhu had resigned in protest of state-wide desecration of Guru Granth Sahib Ji incidents, in October 2015.
Badal’s SAD has been struggling to find a candidate for Amritsar (South) after the resignation of its presiding legislator Inderbir Singh Bolaria. Bolaria had quit the SAD in protest of proposed installation of Solid Waste Management Plant in his constituency.
In October 2016, Bolaria joined the Congress on the eve of Dussehra in Amritsar in the presence of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee’s head Captain Amarinder Singh.
Speaking to Sikh24, Gurpreet Singh said that he feels it is his good fortune that his party has considered him for the nominations. “I will file nomination papers tomorrow (January 18)”, Tikka told Sikh24.
