AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Prof. Badungar has announced plans to launch an ‘Environment Awareness Campaign’ to build up towards commemorating the 550th birth anniversary of the Sikh master, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, in 2019.

In a phone call with Sikh24 yesterday, Prof. Badungar said that the campaign will be focused on enriching Punjab’s greenery over the next three years.

He said that the whole world was struggling to tackle rising air pollution and global warming. “Guru Nanak Sahib has taught us to respect nature by comparing air, water and earth with teacher, father and mother respectively”, he added.

He added that environmentalist Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal will participate in the campaign to convey the message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

“The SGPC is hosting a meeting at Gurdwara Ber Sahib on December 7 in which intellectuals and representatives of prominent religious bodies will address the theme”, he added.

  1. Leather factories use chromium .
This is a level -1 carcinogen.
Half the population of UP and Bihar have high level of chromium as several leather factories are located on Banks of Ganges near Kanpur.
We need to take pollution of our land ,air and water very seriously and not scumbbing to greed of money.
It will have a adverse impact on our children.

  2. Good step, should also think about education also & should open Khalsa schools in English medium & to teach Panjabi in villages.

  3. Punjab water has Uranium and heavy metals which cause cancer.
    Air pollution also cause cancer.
SGPC and Punjab govt need to set up an expert committee to take remedial measures.
They also need to set up an expert committee on drugs .

    • Who has put the uranium and heavy metals into Punjab’s water? Who is peddling drugs in Punjab (which supposedly has the tightest border with Pakistan) to an almost ethnic cleansing scale? These issues did not exist in 1984. And you want the SGPC and Punjab Government to ‘solve’ these problems when their own members are openly suspected and indeed accused of profiting (Badal family’s Majithia is declared drug lord – would you put him on expert committee to examine himself?!). Be honest and not hypocritical, you are quite happy for Punjab’s pollution to continue as a means of driving Sikhs out.

      • Indian Punjab is facing a slow death.
If we don’t create multiple new Punjabs all over the world we will be consigned to history like the Dinasoraus .
Evolution , Exploration and being an Empireizen are the only way to survive.

      • Don’t worry about Punjab, its true sons the Sikhs will save their mother tongue and land. You can go with others and migrate to other soil.

      • If you don’t have alternative Punjab’s in this Universe .
You will perish in Indian Punjab.
Indian Punjab is on the hit list of several forces.
