‘Dastar Awareness March’ Attended by Hundreds of Sikh Youth in Faridkot

FARIDKOT, Punjab— A ‘Turban Awareness March’ dedicated to the martyrdom of Shaheed Bhai Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Shaheed Bhai Gurjit Singh was conducted in Faridkot district by the local Sikh youths on May 22, 2016. Bhai Sukhraj Singh, son of Shaheed Bhai Krishan Bhagwan Singh, played a main role in organizing the march.

Shaheed Bhai Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Shaheed Bhai Gurjit Singh were martyred in an unprovoked firing opened by Punjab police on peacefully protesting Sikhs on October 14, 2015. The protesters were demanding the arrest of the culprits that were responsible for the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji by holding a sit-in-strike at Behbal Klan.

Starting from village Niamiwala, the March concluded at Gurdwara Khalsa Diwan of Faridkot covering 15 Kilometres distance after traversing villages Behbal Klan, Gurusar, Sarawan, Dhilwan Klan, Kotakpura and Sandhwa on the way.

Addressing the Sikh youths at the conclusion of the March, Chief Organizing Secretary of Youth Akali Dal Amritsar, S. Papalpreet Singh, suggested to the organizers of the march that the next march they conduct should be named ‘Turban Freedom March.’ Citing utterances of the great Sikh of the 20th century, Sant Baba Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale, S. Papalpreet Singh said that Sant Ji stated that we liberated the Topi (Cap) & Jneyoo (thread of Hindu belief) in 1947 but now we have to liberate our Turban.  He also emphasized on the need of religious and political awareness among the current Sikh youth.

Bhai Rupinder Singh Panj Grayiaan, Bhai Gursewak Singh Bhana, Bhai Navdeep Singh, S. Resham Singh (elder brother of Shaheed Bhai Krishan Singh), S. Harjaap Singh, and S. Mandeep Singh Kotakpura were prominent in the march along with many youth.
