After Devastating Floods, Sikhs Continue To Serve in Chennai

CHENNAI, India—New York based Sikh organization United Sikhs has continued its relief efforts in Chennai after the devastating floods.  United Sikhs volunteers arrived in Chennai on December 2, 2015, with food and medical supplies to assist the victims of the devastating floods that hit the Coromandel Coast of India.

Despite the conditions being harsh, United Sikhs volunteers have continued their relief efforts in the devastated areas, while concentrating most on Chennai.  Floods have claimed over 600 lives, and close to 2 million have been displaced.

With assistance of local Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship), United Sikhs has been arranging for groceries to provide hot meals for the flood victims.  Free food is being served three times a day.  Estimated 15,000 victims are served every day by United Sikhs.

The organization has also continued to deliver food, milk, water, and other relief materials to victims, regardless of caste, color, creed and religion to remote areas where transportation has been disabled.  Medical camps have also been organized.
