MP Prem Singh Chandumajra Demands Sikh Sovereignty in Indian Parliament

prem_singh_chandumajraNEW DELHI, India—Citing the promises made to Sikh leaders before freedom of India in 1947, Member Parliament and General Secretary of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) Prem Singh Chandumajra raised the demand of Sikh sovereignty in Parliament of India.

He was addressing the Parliament session during the debate over the heritage of Dr. B.R Ambedkar. S. Chandumajra stated in his speech that no provisions were made in the constitution for the promises made to Sikh leaders by the Indian leaders of allotting a territory in North India for nurturing Sikh culture and Punjabi language.

Prem Singh Chandumajra is General Secretary and spokesman of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and current Member of Parliament from Anandpur Sahib and former constituency MP from Patiala.

  1. Title of this article is misleading. Expressing the aspiration and desire for equal treatment is not a request but a basic right?
