NEW DELHI, India—In the court of Judicial Magistrate of Union Territory of Chandigarh, witness statements of the prosecution in the Burail Jail Break case have been completed. The court will start recording the witnesses of defence from August 3.

It is notable that on the midnight of January 21, 2004, Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, Bhai Paramjit Singh Bheora, Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara and another succeeded in escaping from the jail by digging a tunnel. The trio were facing accusations of assassinating Chief Minister Beanta in a bomb blast on August 31, 1995, in the Civil Secretariat of Chandigarh.

Prosecution lawyer Advocate J.P Singh asserted in the court that the convicts succeeded in escaping from jail due to the irresponsibility of the jail Superintendent, D.S. Rana, and the Deputy Superintendent D.S. Sandhu.

It may be recalled that following the jail break incident, Superintendent D.S Rana and Deputy Superintendent D.S. Sandhu were suspended by the Chandigarh Administration. But the duo challenged the decision of the Chandigarh Administration in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has favored the decision of Chandigarh Administration after hearing the situation.

The prosecution lawyer alleged that the trio were being given a luxurious life in jail and on their requests they were kept together in Barrack No. 7 by the jail Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent.
