:dateline:The SGPC has decided to demand from the Punjab government�that the�suffix �Sahib� be added to the�city name of Amritsar, stating that Amritsar is the central city of the Sikh faith because Sri Harmandir Sahib is situated�there.
The SGPC added that despite the significant status of Amritsar to Sikhs, the Punjab Government did not add the�suffix �Sahib� to the city like the other historical Sikh cities – Sri Anandpur Sahib, Sri Mukatsar Sahib, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib and Sri Baba Bakala Sahib. It stated that the suffix �Sahib� will make the city name sound more respectable.
