OTTAWA, Ontario, Canada—Responding to serious concerns from the family of missing Canadian Prabhdeep Srawn, New Democrat Consular Affairs Critic Hélène Laverdière (Laurier—Sainte-Marie) stood up in the House of Commons to demand action from the Conservatives on additional search and rescue assistance in Australia.  Australian police announced they are suspending the search for him on Friday.

“Prabhdeep Srawn is a Canadian Forces reservist who has been missing for two weeks in Australia.  When his family reached out for help,” the government ignored them,” said Laverdière.

Laverdière’s question to the Minister of Foreign Affairs comes on the same day that Official Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair wrote to Prime Minister Stephen Harper to push for additional search and rescue assistance from the Australian government.

“There is no time to waste. Prabhdeep Srawn has selflessly served this country and must not be abandoned during this time of great need,” said Tom Mulcair.

“Mr. Srawn has proudly served our country.  Now, our country should be doing more for him.  Why won’t the Conservatives listen to the concerns of his family? Why haven’t they listened and worked (with the Australians) to bring him home?” asked Laverdière.
