CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Sikh political prisoner Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara who is serving life imprisonment in case of assassination of the then Punjab chief minister Beant “Singh”, reportedly ended his hunger strike after getting assurance from Burail jail authorities.

Bhai Tara was sitting on the strike since June 26 against being denied meeting with relatives and close friends by jail authorities.

As per sources, the jail authorities spoke him that if he wanted to meet relatives and close aides, he had to file a plea in lower court. After the court granted permission him, they said, the jail administration would make arrangement for his meeting with them.

The sources said the administration had banned any movement of Bhai Tara even inside the jail. Concerned authorities said that Bhai Tara wanted to meet those persons who did not have blood relationship with him but security agencies did not permit him to do so.

It is worth mentioning that Bhai Tara was arrested in Thailand by Thai Police with the help of Indian intelligence agencies and was extradited to India few months ago.
