AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s 176th death anniversary was observed on Monday near Gurdwara Dehra Sahib at Lahore.
Following the Bhog ceremony of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, a religious function was held to mark the death anniversary. Sikh Sangat remembered Maharaja Ranjit Singh and deeds done by him for establishing Sikh rule during first half of 19th century. Sri Darbar Sahib’s Hazuri Ragi Bhai Bikramjit Singh Khalsa and Bhai Lal Jee sang Gurbani Kirtan on the occasion.
Auqaf board chairman Saddiq Ur Farooq welcomed Sikh pilgrims for visit to Pakistan. Representative of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jathedar Rampal Singh Behniwal paid tribute to Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He requested Pakistan government to construct inn of 200 rooms for Sikh pilgrims and gave the responsibility of kar sewa Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib (Narowal) to the SGPC.
Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) general secretary Gopal Singh Chawla and Pak cabinet minister Dr. Swaran Singh condemned harsh reaction made by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjit Singh GK for not granting kar Sewa of Gurdwara Dehra Sahib to it.
PSGPC president Baba Sham Singh, former president Bishan Singh, Khalra Mission Committee leaders also paid homage to the Sikh Maharaja. Jathedar Behniwal was honoured during the function.
