CHANDIGARH, Punjab—In a meeting of sub-committee looking after the issue of Gurdwara Gian Godri Sahib’s demolition in Haridwar, the apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has decided to hold a meeting with Uttarakhand’s CM Trivendra Singh Rawat. A high-level delegation of SGPC will meet Uttarakhand’s CM under the leadership of president Bibi Jagir Kaur.
Representatives of prominent Sikh seminaries and DSGMC president Manjinder Singh Sirsa will also join this delegation.
Sharing the development with the media, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur has said that the Sikhs have an emotional attachment with Gurdwara Gian Godri Sahib as it is related to Guru Nanak Sahib’s visit to Haridwar. “The SGPC has been continuously making efforts for the reestablishment of this historical Sikh shrine in Haridwar,” she added.
Bibi Jagir Kaur informed that the SGPC would write a letter to Uttarakhand’s CM TS Rawat seeking an appointment. “We have also directed Kanshi based SGPC member Harbhajan Singh Cheema to get an appointment with TS Rawat so that this issue could be resolved at the earliest,” she said.
In this meeting, SGPC’s senior vice-president Surjit Singh Bhittewad, Baba Gian Dev Singh from Udasi Samprada, Baba Jagjit Singh Lopon from Nirmale Samprada, interim-committee member S. Satwinder Singh Tohra, member S. Baldev Singh, DSGMC representative S. Jatinderpal Singh, Shiromani Panth Akali Budha Dal secretary S. Daljit Singh Bedi and other officials of SGPC were also present.
It may be recalled here that the Gurdwara Giani Godri Sahib was demolished by the Uttarakhand government while accomplishing the Ganga river’s beautification project.
Guru Nanak Sahib, the founder of Sikhism, had taught lessons of humanity at Haridwar during the fourth ‘Udaasi’. Gurdwara Gian Godri Sahib was established in the memory of Guru Nanak Sahib’s valuable teachings at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar.
