Deep Sidhu Arrested; Remanded in Police Custody for Seven Days

NEW DELHI, India— After a two-week-long high-fiery chase, the Delhi police today succeeded in arresting actor turned activist Deep Sidhu in Haryana. Although some media houses have reported that Deep Sidhu got arrested from Zirakpur while others claimed his arrest from Karnal, the Delhi police still have not confirmed his arrest.

Almost eight hours after his arrest, the Delhi police produced him in the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate Prigya Gupta in a case pertaining to January 26’s incident at Lal Qila.

It is pertinent to note here that the farmers had hoisted two flags Nishan Sahib (Sikh flag) and farmers protest flag on an empty pole on the Lal Qila. The same day, an incident of violence had also occurred between some farmers and Delhi police cops, during which the cops had to jump from the backside wall of Lal Qila.

While presenting Deep Sidhu before the Court, the Delhi police accused him of inciting violence at Lal Qila on January 26. Sidhu’s legal counsel strongly opposed the Delhi police’s accusations against Deep Sidhu.

After hearing arguments of the duo sides, the Court approved seven days police remand of Deep Sidhu.

For the last two weeks, Deep Sidhu had been hiding at undisclosed places to evade arrest in this case. However, he had managed to answer the propaganda ignited by leftist farmer bodies’ leaders against him by getting his videos uploaded over his social media accounts.

Till his arrest, his opponents and mainstream media journalists raised the question about the failure of police in tracing Deep Sidhu despite the continuous posting of videos from his social media accounts. Still, now it has come to fore that Deep Sidhu got his videos posted on social media with his foreign-based friend’s help.

Meanwhile, social media has been stormed with posts in support of Deep Sidhu. He’s being hailed for his unmatched contribution to farmers’ struggle by his supporters.
