SGPC holds ardas samagams in historic gurdwaras for success of farmers’ agitation

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) held ardas samagam (event for offering prayers) at all historic gurdwaras for the success of the farmers’ agitation who are struggling against the anti-farmer black laws introduced by the Government of India. Apart from the gurdwaras under the direct control of the SGPC, prayers were also offered on Monday, at the gurdwaras belonging to the local committees for the success of the peasants’ struggle.

A prayer function was held at Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Gurbakhsh Singh inside the Golden Temple complex, which was attended by prominent personalities including the head granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh, and SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur. During the prayers, Giani Jagtar Singh said, “The laws oppressing the farmers by the Union government should be repealed. Guru Sahib should grant goodwill to the government of the country so that it could understand the sentiments of humanity.”

Speaking on the occasion, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “Today the entire nation is standing against the stubborn attitude of the Government of India but it was unfortunate that the Union Government was not listening to the voice of its own people. Farmers have even been supported by key leaders from Canada and other countries, including the United Nations.”

Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “The SGPC has prayed to Guru Sahib to further strengthen the farmers’ agitation. The voice of truth being raised by the farmers with courage, fortitude, and bravery is guided by Sikh history. The entire country is united against the agriculture laws and the role of the people of Punjab is commendable. Punjabis have always been fighting for rights and truth and Sikh history is the source of strength for such struggles. I appeal to the Union Government to listen to the voice of the farmers and repeal the black laws.”

In the ardas samagam additional head granthi Giani Jagtar Singh Ludhiana, senior vice president Surjit Singh Bhitewad, honorary chief secretary Advocate Harjinder Singh, former jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, member of executive committee Baba Charanjit Singh Jassowal, member Mangwinder Singh Khaparkheri, Harjap Singh Sultanwind, Bhai Ajaib Singh, Gurmeet Singh Booh, secretary Mahinder Singh Ahli, Sukhdev Singh Bhurakohna and other senior officials of the SGPC were present.

SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur also held a meeting and discussion with Raagi Singhs of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib and managers of different gurdwaras. Bibi Jagir Kaur said to the gurdwara managers and raagi Singhs to ensure taking care of feelings of sangat coming to gurdwaras and during management, and publicize Sikh traditions and Sikh Rehat Maryada (Sikh Code of Conduct) under Guru’s faith and fear while reciting the gurbani kirtan.

“From the conduct of gurdwara managers, there should be a glimpse of Sikhi. And as the SGPC is the institution of the sangat, so, the sangat should not face any sought of inconveniences”, instructed Bibi Jagir Kaur.

In the meeting, the SGPC president motivated the raagi Singhs to serve in the light of the Sikh Kirtan traditions.
