Kotkapura Firing Incident: SIT seeks resumption of trial against accused

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Special Investigation Team probing Kotkapura firing incident has apprehended that the political leaders and police officials, who have been granted bail, might influence the witnesses of this case. The SIT has filed a plea before the Court of Sessions Judge Sumeet Malhotra seeking resumption of trial in this case.

It is pertinent to note here that the hearing on this case was suspended on March 22, i.e. the first day of lockdown imposition in India due to coronavirus pandemic.

Acting on the plea, the Court has issued notices to the lawyers of all the accused to appear on December 18.

It is being expected that the Court might conduct a debate on framing charges against the accused persons during this hearing.

On the other hand, the Court of Magistrate Rajesh Kumar has sent the charge sheet filed against SP Bikramjit Singh and SHO Amarjit Singh Kular in Behbal Kalan firing case to the sessions court for the hearing. Notably, these duo cops have been granted bail by the Court.
