In this FIR, other cops Paramraj Umranangal and SSP Charanjit Sharma have already been indicted.

In October-2015, the Punjab police cops had opened unprovoked firing on Sikh protesters in Kotkapura at the behest of the then DGP Sumedh Saini. Several Sikh activists were left severely injured in this firing incident.

It is pertinent to note here that Sumedh Saini’s name has already been included in the FIR pertaining to Behbal Kalan firing incident.

Currently, Sumedh Saini secures a relaxation from the Court about being intimated seven days prior to arrest him in any case. However, the SIT may call Sumedh Saini for interrogation in this case.

In this case, the SIT is learned to have found solid evidence against Sumedh Saini with the help of ex-SSP Charanjit Sharma’s reader Inspector Pardeep Singh who has turned an approver (testified against Punjab police officials)
