Sumedh Saini moves anticipatory bail plea through chief of Gurdwara Judicial Commission

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—After fleeing from Punjab on getting booked in a three-decade-old abduction case, former Punjab DGP Sumedh Saini today moved a plea seeking anticipatory bail in the Mohali court. Interestingly, Advocate Satnam Singh Kler appeared before the Court to seek anticipatory bail for Sumedh Saini.

It is pertinent to note here that Advocate Satnam Singh Kler is the chief legal advisor of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal). He also heads the Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Court has issued a notice to the Punjab police complete records of this 29-year-old abduction case of Balwant Singh Multani who was the son of a former IAS officer Darshan Singh Multani.

The court will now hear Saini’s anticipatory bail application tomorrow, i.e. on May 7.

It may be recalled here that a fresh FIR No. 77/2020 was registered against the former Punjab DGP Sumedh Saini in Mataur police station of Mohali in relation to the enforced disappearance of Sikh youth Balwant Singh Multani on May 6.

This FIR has been registered under sections 364 (kidnapping or abduction in order to murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 344 (wrongful confinement), 330 (voluntarily causing hurt to exhort confession) and 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) on the complaint of victim Balwant Singh Multani’s brother Palwinder Singh.
