Captain Amarinder Singh: No interference in FIR against Sumedh Saini, law is taking its course

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Refuting the allegations leveled by the Ex-DGP Sumedh Saini about political motivation behind his indictment, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has said that the law was taking its own course and there is no political motivation in this matter.

On May 6, a fresh FIR No. 77/2020 was registered against the former Punjab DGP Sumedh Saini in Mataur police station of Mohali in relation to the enforced disappearance of Sikh youth Balwant Singh Multani.

In 1991, Balwant Singh Multani was abducted along with father and uncle of Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar and trio of them were taken to the Qadian police station after which they didn’t appear again.

On being approached by the media, a police spokesperson has revealed that the fresh application has been moved by victim Balwant Singh Multani’s brother Palwinder Singh Multani.

“The complainant had cited Para 80 of the Supreme Court order of December 7, 2011, that it was “open to the applicants who had filed the petitions under Section 482 of the CRPC to take recourse to fresh proceedings, if permissible in law,” he said.
