Thousands of pilgrims stuck at Hazoor Sahib in big problem due to extension in lockdown till May 3

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The problems of around three thousand pilgrims stuck at Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib and two thousand pilgrims stuck at Takht Sri Patna Sahib have increased with the extension in countrywide lockdown in India till May 3. Notably, the prevailing lockdown was expected to get lifted today but the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the lockdown will continue till May 3.

Although, Modi has announced to grant limited relief to least affected areas after April 20, however this is also not going to help these pilgrims stuck at Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib and Takht Sri Patna Sahib in the absence special arrangements on government’s behalf.

On April 13, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal wrote a letter to the Indian PM Narendra Modi seeking arrangements for making these pilgrims return back to their homes in Punjab. She asked the Prime Minister to operate special trains for the safe return back of these pilgrims.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal also asked the Punjab government to make arrangements for screening all these pilgrims if they return back in coming days.

It is pertinent to note here that there has been no action on government’s behalf despite repeated requests by the Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh since the imposition of lockdown.

Soon after the imposition of lockdown, Captain Amarinder Singh had requested the Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to make arrangements for the safe return back of these pilgrims but no action has been witnessed even after the completion of lockdown’s first phase.

On April 3, the pilgrims stranded at Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib had even staged a protest against government’s inaction, but still they continue to be victims of government’s inattention.
