Sikhs move petition against referring Sikh religion as a cult in Ayodhya case verdict

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Sikh Nation Organization headed by Dr. Manjit Singh Randhawa has moved a petition in the Indian Supreme Court seeking removal of the word “cult” used while referring to the Sikh religion from its verdict on the Ayodhya issue. Dr. Manjit Singh Randhawa has also sought removal of distorted facts mentioned in the Ayodhya case verdict about Sikh religion.

Sharing the development with media, Dr. Manjit Singh Randhawa informed that he has moved this petition after consulting leading dictionaries, including Oxford, Cambridge, Longman, Collins, besides various Sikh scholars. “I discovered that the word ‘cult’ was used in a derogatory and defamatory sense. So we want that this word be removed from the verdict, as it will result in serious damage to the Sikhs globally,” he added.

Dr. Manjit Singh further said that there were also blasphemous references to Guru Nanak Sahib’s visit to Ayodhya as a devotee and worshiping the idol of Ram that needed to be rectified in the verdict. He claimed that their petition would be argued by senior advocates, including Kapil Sibal.

It may be recalled here that the Supreme Court of India had addressed a verdict in favor of Hindus while citing Guru Nanak Sahib’s visit to Ayodhya. The SC bench had used word “cult” while referring to the Sikh religion.
