:dateline:Amid consecutive implementation of anti-Muslim policies by the BJP led Indian government, a middle class Sikh farmer named Darshan Singh has set an example to robust communal harmony by donating 16 Marlas land for constructing a Mosque for the Muslims living in village Machike of Moga district. It is learnt that a community centre will also be constructed in this land for the 15 families living in village.
Sources have informed that the Muslim families of this village used to offer prayers in a mosque situated on Moga-Barnala highway, but now this mosque is likely to get demolished under a road widening project by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). One of its boundary walls has already been razed.
Interacting with media, village resident Roop Mohammad and Sardar Ali informed that they tried to get land from the village panchayat but were denied. �In this situation, Darshan Singh came forward to help them by deciding to donate 16 Marlas land plot for constructing their new mosque,� they said while adding that all the Muslim families living in this village were not financially sound so they couldn�t afford to purchase land.
It has also come to fore that the earlier Mosque situated on Moga-Barnala highway was constructed on Panchayat�s land about four decades ago and the compensation against demolition of this Mosque has been received by the Panchayat. A minute part of this compensation was given to the Muslim families against the cost of debris.
Meanwhile, these Muslim families have now constituted a Muslim Welfare Society to seek donations for the construction of a new mosque and the community centre.
The farmer has shown a great magnanimity and gnerous heart. True God bless him and his family. 16 Marla land is a considerable land and is worth a lot of money. I pray to have more poeple like him on both sides of the border.
