GFI to teach Gatka to schoolgirls for self-defense

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Keeping in view the rising incidents of sexual assault on girls in India, the Gatka Federation of India has come up with a plan to teach Gatka to girls studying in PSEB affiliated school in Punjab.

Sharing the development with media, GFI’s general secretary Baljinder Singh Toor informed that they were going to take up the proposal to the Education Minister and Sports Minister so that these girls could be taught the tactics of self-defense.

He added that the GFI has women’s teams which will be deployed to train the girls in Gatka.

“Firstly, we will organize short-duration camps in government schools and later these camps will also be organized in PSEB affiliated private schools,” he informed.

Gatka is a complete martial system which uses spiritual, mental and physical skills in equal portions to help one fully competent in defending themselves and others. In addition to giving the student defensive skills, it also helps the individual with other aspects of their life: makes the mind alert and responsive, maintains the body in a near perfect condition and makes soul fearless, compassionate and tranquil.
