India and Pakistan sign agreement to functionalize Kartarpur corridor

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Finally, the Indian and Pakistan governments today signed an agreement to make operational the much awaited Kartarpur corridor so that the Sikhs residing in India could get visa free access to Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib.  

Pakistan’s Foreign Office’s director general Dr Mohammad Faisal and the Joint Secretary of  Indian Ministry of Home Affairs S.C.L. Das signed this agreement at the Pakistan-India border in Narowal.

As per the agreement, the corridor will remain open seven days a week from dawn to dusk, however the Sikh pilgrims from India will arrive at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in the day and would have to leave by evening.  

Interacting with media, Dr. Mohammad Faisal informed that 5,000 Sikh pilgrims from India will be allowed to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib everyday. 

It is learnt that the Pakistan authorities will scan the passport of every pilgrim before granting entry and the Indian authorities will have to provide a list of pilgrims 10 days prior to their visit.
