Sacred Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and Bhagvad Gita found tied in a bale from Hoshiarpur’s crematorium

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—On September 5, a traditional sacred saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was reportedly found tied in a bale outside the large crematorium situated on Haryana road in Hoshiarpur. Beside it, a Hindu scripture of Bhagvad Gita and a photo of Bhagat Ravidas Ji were also found tied in this bale.

As soon as the incident came to fore, a wave of shock spread across the city and district after which all the Sikh outfits and political outfits collectively performed ‘Ardas’ at Gurdwara Sri Singh Sabha Sahib seeking apology.

DSP City Jagdish Raj, while addressing a press conference at Police Station Sadar, said the police have registered a case at Police Station Sadar.

“During preliminary investigation, it was found that the said bale, out of which the scriptures were found, belonged to a 100-year-old Niranjan Singh, a resident of Kamalpur, who died on August 31 and was cremated on Wednesday,” he informed.

The family told the police that Niranjan had kept the bale with him securely and had asked the family to leave it with him without opening it when he died. Due to this, they left the said bale there in the crematorium after cremating his body, the DSP said.

He said the family claimed to be unaware of said scriptures being there in the bale. The family said these earlier in Niranjan’s room and he used to read these daily. Being too old, Niranjan kept them in a bale that he kept with him.

The DSP said the family members of Niranjan would be part of the investigation and if anyone was found guilty, legal action would be taken.
