Hearing on Kotkapura case deferred onto July 24

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—A Faridkot based court of judicial magistrate Ekta Uppal conducted hearing on the case filed against IG Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh by the former IG Paramraj Umranangal on July 19. Notably, Umranangal has accused the IG Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh of not following the norms issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court with regard to the probes in the 2015 Kotkapura police firing case.

During this hearing, Umranangal’s legal counsel told the Court that the SIT was bound to report the probe proceedings to district magistrate or the concerned sub-divisional magistrate on a daily basis but the SIT didn’t do so.

In reply, the counsels for the SIT said the probes were being carried out under as per the provisions of the existing laws. The SIT has also demanded from the court to transfer this case to the district and sessions court.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Court has adjourned next hearing of the case onto July 24.
