Cops acted unprofessionally by brutally thrashing Sikh driver, Delhi police admits before High Court

NEW DELHI, India—The Delhi police have admitted before the Delhi High Court that its cops depicted an unprofessional approach by brutally thrashing an auto rickshaw’s Sikh driver Sarabjit Singh and his son Balwant Singh. Notably, the Delhi High Court had sought a reply on this issue from the Delhi police while taking up a petition seeking a CBI inquiry into brutal thrashing of the Sikh driver by the cops deployed in Mukherjee Nagar police station.

In an affidavit filed before the Delhi High Court bench of Justices D.N Patel and C. Hari on July 2, the Joint Commissioner Manish Aggarwal of Delhi police has said that the cops should have shown greater patience and professionalism instead of dragging an auto rickshaw driver and his young son.

“Even if it is granted that Sarabjeet Singh, a Sikh driver, and his son were extremely aggressive and did not get up to walk on their own in spite of several rounds of persuasion, it is felt that police personnel should have exhibited greater patience and professionalism instead of indulging in the impulsive professional conduct of dragging them in the manner as in the video”, the affidavit said.

Admitting that there was no need to call the cops in heavy number, the Delhi police have told the High Court that fair investigation will be conducted into this issue.

“Assistant Sub-Inspectors Sanjay Malik and Devender and Constable Pushpendra have been placed under suspension and recommended to be posted in a non-sensitive unit and a joint departmental inquiry has also been recommended against 10 police cops,” reveals the affidavit.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Court has deferred next hearing of this case onto September 2.
