CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Sikh Students Federation (Mehta) has announced to support the Shiromani Akali Dal candidates during these parliamentary polls. SSF (Mehta) president Amarbir Singh Dhot has said that the SSF (Mehta) believes that only the Shiromani Akali Dal can lead the Sikh community in modern times.
Dhot has also urged the common masses to support the SAD candidates in these parliamentary polls so that the issues of Sikh community could be raked up in a high pitched voice in the parliament of India.
On being questioned about BJP candidates, Dhot said that at present they have decided to support only the SAD candidates and will deliberate upon supporting the BJP candidates later.
It is pertinent to note here that the Sikh Students Federation (Mehta) has been supporting the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) from a long time and is almost inactive on Sikh issues. Its patrons Rajinder Singh Mehta and Amarjit Singh Chawla are renowned for their proximity with SAD president Sukhbir Badal. They keep on justifying every correct and incorrect stand of Sukhbir Badal on Sikh issues without any hesitation.
Although, the SSF (Mehta) leaders claim of being political descendants of Shaheed Bhai Harminder Singh Sandhu but they have nothing to do with Bhai Sandhu’s ideology.
In fact, the patrons of SSF (Mehta) have been always keen of enjoying patronage of prominent leaders from the very first day of their entrance into Sikh politics. Till the unfortunate murder of Shaheed Bhai Harminder Singh Sandhu, they were biggest supporters of Bhai Sandhu’s ideology of running a parallel government by establishing Khalsa Panchayats in every village of Punjab but after his murder they steadily jumped to Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and became mainstream politicians.
