Hearing on Petition Seeking Reopening of Gurdwara Dangmaar Sahib Deferred onto June 3

GANGTOK, Sikkim—On May 3, the Sikkim High Court conducted hearing on the petition moved by the Siliguri Singh Sabha Gurdwara Committee seeking reopening of Gurdwara Guru Dangmaar Sahib. Advocate Ritesh Khatri and Naveen Bariq presented arguments on behalf of Siliguri Singh Sabha Gurdwara Committee during this hearing and requested the Court to allow Sikhs to install the holy corpus of living Sikh master Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

After hearing the arguments of the duo parties, the High Court deferred the next hearing of the case onto June 3.

It may be recalled here that the living eternal Sikh master Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and other religious articles were forcibly removed from the Gurdwara Guru Dangmaar Sahib (Sikkim) in a disrespectful way by local Buddhists and villagers on August 16, 2017. The Buddhists did it after the local authorities decreed to take possession of the Gurdwara Sahib’s premises to use the premises for some other purpose.

Situated at an altitude of 18000 feet at Indo-Tibetan border, Gurdwara Dangmaar Sahib was established in 1971 by and for Sikh army men.
