Sri Hemkunt Sahib Pilgrimage-2019: Sikh Army Men Start Removing Snow from Footways

DEHRADUN, Uttarakhand—The pilgrimage of hilly Sikh shrine, Sri Hemkunt Sahib, will begin on June 1 this year. 40 Military cops of 418 Engineer Group (Roorkee) headed by Major Sudarshan Singh have started the work of removing snow from the footways leading to Sri Hemkunt Sahib.

Interacting with media, Major Sudarshan Singh said that the snowfall rate remained more this year than last year. “The soldiers have begun work to remove 5-8 feet thick layer of snow,” he informed while adding that they clean the passage by May 25.

Meanwhile, Seva Singh has said that Sri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust is making preparations for facilitating hassle free pilgrimage to the pilgrims.

It is pertinent to note here that the gates of Sri Hemkunt Sahib normally get opened on May 25 every year but this year the gates will be opened on June 1 due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Situated at altitude of 15,197 feet, Sri Hemkunt Sahib is a Sikh shrine in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. It is devoted to Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh master, and finds mention in Dasam Granth, a work dictated by Guru Sahib himself. With its setting of a glacial lake surrounded by seven mountain peaks, each adorned by a Nishan Sahib on its cliff.
