On the complaint of SAD (Badal), EC relieves IG Kunwar Partap Singh from SIT

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—On the complaint of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), the Election Commission of India on April 8 directed the Chief Secretary of Punjab to relieve IG Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh from his present posting as a member of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which is probing the police firing incidents occurred at Behbal Klan and Kotkapura. The EC has asked the Chief Secretary not to deploy IG Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh on any post related to election work.

Sikh24 has learnt that he has been transferred as an Inspector General of Counter Intelligence, Amritsar.

It may be recalled here that the SAD-BJP parliamentarian Naresh Kumar Gujral had lodged a complaint against the SIT member IG Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh on March 22 accusing him of presenting the SAD in poor light before the media on March 18 & 19 despite imposition of the model code of conduct.

The Election Commission of India has directed the Chief Secretary of Punjab to ensure that the SIT members shouldn’t air any content related to its investigation during the period of Model Code of Conduct as it could affect the fairness of conduction of electoral process.
