Bandi Chhor Diwas Celebrated with Full Religious Fervor at Sri Harmandir Sahib

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The 399th Bandi Chhor Diwas (prisoner liberation day) was celebrated with full religious fervor at sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib on November 7. Thousands of devotees flocked to the holiest Sikh shrine to receive the blessings of Guru Sahib on this sacred day and lit dimwits.

The entire Sri Harmandir Sahib complex was illuminated with LED lights, giving it a glittering look.

Following the recitation of Rehraas Sahib, a special firecracker bursting event of 10 minutes was organized like every year. It is learnt that the SGPC reduced the duration of firework display keeping in view the pollution concerns this year.

It is noteworthy here that the Bandi Chhor Diwas is celebrated by the Sikh community every year in the memory of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib’s release from the Gwalior fort in 1619. Guru Sahib had secured the release of 52 Kings of small kingdoms from the Gwalior fort.
