Gates of Sri Hemkunt Sahib to Get Closed on October 10

RISHIKESH, Uttarakhand—The gates of the hilly Sikh shrine Sri Hemkunt Sahib will be closed due to the winter season on October 10. Notably, the gates Sri Hemkunt Sahib are opened for pilgrims on May 25 every year under normal weather conditions.

Sharing the development with Sikh24, the Manager of Sri Hemkunt Sahib S. Gurnam Singh informed that the holy corpuses of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji will be kept there and the Sikh devotees will come back after performing a season’s concluding “Ardas”. He added that more than 2,00,000 pilgrims paid obeisance at Sri Hemkunt Sahib this year and all of them were offered best facilities by the management trust.

Situated at altitude of 15,197 feet, Sri Hemkunt Sahib is a Sikh shrine in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. It is devoted to Guru Gobind Singh (1666–1708), the tenth Sikh master, and finds mention in Dasam Granth, a work dictated by Guru Sahib himself. With its setting of a glacial lake surrounded by seven mountain peaks, each adorned by a Nishan Sahib on their peaks.
