SGPC Condemns Incident of Forcing Sikh Candidates to Remove Kakaars in Rajasthan

AMRITSAR SAHIB—The apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee has strongly condemned the incident of forcing baptized Sikh students to remove their articles of Sikh faiths during the preliminary examination held for Rajasthan Administrative Services on August 5. Notably, the staff deployed at the examination center in Saraswati Public School of Hanumangarh had forced the Sikh students remove their Kirpans and Karhaa on August 5.

In a press note shared with Sikh24, the SGPC president S. Gobind Singh Longowal has said that the SGPC will approach the Rajasthan government seeking strict action against the guilty police cops.

Longowal further said that the Indian constitution allows Sikhs to carry their ‘Kirpans’ even in domestic flights, but some radical elements don’t miss any opportunity to exploit Sikhs to make them realize their second class citizenship status in India.

Citing some earlier such incidents, Longowal has appealed the Union government of India to issue special instructions for tackling incidents of religious discrimination.
