Sikh Pilgrims Arrive in Pakistan to Mark Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s 179th Death Anniversary

WAGAH, West Punjab, Pakistan—A jatha of 266 Sikh pilgrims from India arrived in Pakistan on June 21 in a special train via Attari railway station to mark 179th death anniversary of Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The Sikh jatha was warmly welcomed at Wagah with flower bouquets by the Evacuee Trust Property Board’s officials.

It may be recalled here that the Pakistani consulate had earlier denied visas to Sikh pilgrims who had applied through SGPC to observe martyrdom anniversary of fifth Sikh master Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji.

The Sikh pilgrims will observe the 179th death anniversary of Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh at Gurdwara Dehra Sahib in Lahore on June 29. They will return back to India on June 30 after having glimpse of many historic Sikh shrines in Pakistan.
