SGPC Slams Critics of Indian Government’s GST Reimbursement Plan on ‘Langar’

AMRITSAR SAHIB—Terming the negative statements being issued by some Sikh leaders about the GST reimbursement plan brought by the Indian government on ‘langar’ as an attempt to astray Sikh masses, the SGPC president S. Gobind Singh Longowal has appealed the Sikh masses to remain cautious about such negative preachment by the miscreants.

It is pertinent to note here that some Sikh leaders along with Punjab Congress leaders are terming the GST reimbursement plan for ‘langar’ as an eyewash by the Indian government. Some Sikh leaders are also objecting over the name of plan ‘Sewa Bhoj Yojna’ under which the GST on ‘langar’ will be returned by the Indian government to SGPC.

Longowal has said that the SGPC always makes efforts to make maximum savings while purchasing goods to be used for cooking ‘langar’ so that the saved money could be used for facilitating educational and health services to common masses. He added that it will be first time in the history when the Indian government will return back the tax charged on ‘langar’ to the SGPC.

Longowal further said that the Congress led Punjab government has just made announcement to waive off its share in GST on ‘langar’ of Sri Harmandir Sahib but no development to return GST by Punjab government has been noticed till date. “The SAD led Punjab government had waived off VAT on trio Sikh thrones of Punjab but the current Congress led Punjab government has even failed in implementing GST waiving on ‘langar’ of Sri Harmandir Sahib” he added.
