Ropar Sacrilege: Punjab Police Holds Volunteer Granthi Guilty of Sacrilege

ROPAR—As per latest updates, the Punjab police have held the Granthi Jagtar Singh guilty of vandalizing the holy corpus of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at village Dangoli (Ropar) on June 9. The Ropar police have claimed that Granthi Jagtar Singh has confessed his crime.

Interacting with media today, the Ropar police officials claimed that Jagtar Singh used ‘Sri Sahib’ to vandalize the holy corpus and they have recovered the ‘Sri Sahib’ used in committing crime from him.

Interestingly, the Police officials said that Jagtar Singh had been voluntarily serving as a Granthi in concerned Gurdwara Sahib from the last 12 years. The Police further claims that Jagtar vandalized the holy corpus as he wasn’t able to serve the duty as he was a Truck driver by profession.

As per sources, the Dangoli villagers have also shown distrust in the story cooked by Punjab police.

It may be recalled here that about 100 ‘Angs’ ranging from 654 to 754 of the holy corpus of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji were found vandalized on June 9. A woman named Harjinder Kaur blew the whistle when she went to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Sahib at 06:30 am. The CCTV cameras installed at the Gurdwara Sahib proved of no help as there had been no power supply in the village since Friday evening and there was also no power back up facility in the Gurdwara Sahib.
