Portraits of Bhai Gyan Singh and Jathedar Kaonke Installed in Central Sikh Museum

AMRITSAR SAHIB—Portraits of Bhai Gyan Singh Gatka Master, former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurdev Singh Kaonke and Journalist cum Sikh activist S. Harnam Singh Dardi (founder of Chardi Kla newspaper) were installed in the Central Sikh Museum on June 5.

“Bhai Gyan Singh was born in 1949 at Boparai Guru Ki Ber village in Amritsar district. He was a close companion of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. He was president of Baba Deep Singh Ranjit Gatka Akhara Delhi” reads the caption below Bhai Gyan Singh’s portrait.

It is pertinent to note here that Bhai Gyan Singh Gatka Master had played a key role in accomplishing plan to assassinate Nirankari chief Gurbachan “Singh” in 1980. His disappearance is a big mystery as he wasn’t found again after being picked by Singhs related to Damdami Taksal from the house of his in-laws in village Nagoke.  

Former Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh had gone face to face with Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale due to disappearance of Bhai Gyan Singh Gatka Master after being picked by Taksali Singhs from village Nagoke.

The trio portraits were unveiled by the SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh along with SGPC President S. Gobind Singh Longowal following a religious ceremony. Family members of these great Sikh personalities were honoured with ‘Siropao’ (robe of honour) on this occasion.  

SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said on this occasion that the SGPC has been recognising the martyrs of the community and it is praiseworthy to install their portraits in the museum.

SGPC president S. Gobind Singh Longowal said that the trio personalities made a big contribution for Sikhs and the community will always remember them.  

SGPC’s executive member S. Gurcharan Singh Grewal, SGPC member S. Rajinder Singh Mehta, SGPC member Manjit Singh and other SGPC staffers were also present on this occasion.
