AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Professor Pandit Rao Dharennawar was today honoured by the SGPC Chief Secretary Dr. Roop Singh at SGPC’s headquarter Teja Singh Samundri Hall for his translation work on Gurbani scriptures and effort to promote Punjabi language. Pandit Rao Dharennawar had come to pay obeisance at sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib and collect books about the Sikh religion.
Pandit Rao Dharennavar is a lecturer by profession. He is also renowned among the Sikh community for his translation work of Gurbani Scriptures, including Japji Sahib, Sukhmani Sahib and Zafarnama (Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s letter to Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb) into Kannada language. He is currently the Assistant Professor at Government College, Chandigarh. Currently, he is working on translation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib to Kannada language for which he was given Rs 1,00,000 (1 lakh) funds from the Chandigarh administrator Shivraj Patil.
Interacting with media on this occasion, Dr. Roop Singh said that it was a matter of pride for the entire Punjabi community that a Karnataka based Professor was making efforts for preaching and promoting Punjabi language. He highly appreciated Pandit Rao Dharnnewar’s efforts of raising voice against eroticism being promoted in Punjabi songs under name of culture.
SGPC Secretary S. Avtar Singh, Additional Secretaries S. Balwinder Singh Jaura Singha and S. Mohinder Singh Aahli etc. were also present on this occasion. They also appreciated Pandit Rao Dharnnewar’s work for the Punjabi language and Sikh religion.
He is the right person to be honoured for promotion of Punjabi language.
All Punjabi intellectuals must get a lesson from him for Punjabi language promotion. He has raised problem of Punjabi boards display throughout State ad Chandigarh U.T.
