Gurbani Word Of The Day: chasaa

ਚਸਾ (chasaa)
Meaning: noun: Period equal to 0.8 second or 1/30 of a pal (even shorter than a moment).

Quote:
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਚਸਾ ਨ ਜੀਵਦੀ   ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਮਿਲਾਇ॥
naanak jis bin chasaa na jeevadee   so satigur deeaa milaa-i.

Nanak! The true Guru has led one to meet that Divine, without whom (an aspiring soul) cannot spiritually live, even for a moment. -Guru Amar Das Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 1283

Message: The link between the devotee and the Divine

Another shortest measure of time, equal to 800 milliseconds, used in the past is chasa.

A spiritually aspiring soul or individual cannot live without the Beloved.

The spiritual aspirant greatly longs for the proximity of the Divine, each and every moment or fraction of it.

What, other than the guidance of the Guru, can be helpful to us in this spiritual fulfilment?

The Guru tells us to shed our conceit and live truthfully and humbly. The Guru asks us to lead a life imbued, bit by bit, with truth, wisdom and love for the Divine.

Living thus will take us and keep us ever in the loving embrace of the Divine where the inner peace will comfort us.

Etymology: From Sanskrit chashak (a small unit of time) → Prakrit chasay → Old Punjabi chasaa (a minute, 1/30 of a pal).
