UK’s First Turbaned Sikh MP Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi pays obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib

AMRITSAR SAHIB—First Turbaned Sikh parliamentarian of United Kingdom S. Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi on July 26 paid obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib along with his father S. Jaspal Singh Dhesi and paternal uncle S. Paramjit Singh Raipur. Trio of them were warmly welcomed by the apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee.

After offering the degh of Karah Prasad and Rumala at the holiest Sikh shrine, he was honored with Siropao by the appointed Granthi Sultan Singh. Later, he paid obeisance at the supreme Sikh throne Sri Akal Takht Sahib and other historic shrines within the sanctum sanctorum while traversing its periphery.

The SGPC organized a special function on this eve in which S. Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi was honored with Sri Sahib, siropao, shawl, a set of religious books and a golden model of Sri Harmandir Sahib by the SGPC officials.

Parliamentarian S. Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi said on this occasion that he has succeeded in winning the elections with the blessings of Guru Sahib. He vowed to follow the Sikh tenets while working on his post.

Talking on the issue of ban on Sikh turban in France, S. Dhesi said that he had raised this issue in the parliament of UK and will always make every possible effort to get this issue sorted at the earliest.
