Karnataka Wants Separate Flag From India

BENGALURU, Karnataka—Continual rest in India as a voice for recognition as emerged from India’s southern quarters. India has already been battling armed resistance for sovereignty in states like Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Manipur, Nagaland and Assam, for many decades.

According to media reports, the Congress led state government of Karnataka has appointed a nine member committee to look into the legal sanctity of hoisting a separate flag for Karnataka. The committee has been also assigned the task to design state flag.

Currently, only the state of Jammu & Kashmir has its own flag and it enjoys a special status under Article 370 of the Indian constitution. If the Karnataka government succeeds in getting a separate flag for Karnataka state then it will be 2nd state in India to officially have a flag of its own.

Media reports reveal that the Principal Secretary of Kannada & Culture Department has been nominated as chairperson of the 9 member committee.

An order in this regard was issued by the Karnataka’s state government on June 6. Chief Minister of Karnataka Mr. Siddaramaiah has taken this step ahead of the assembly polls due in 2018.
