AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar, has demanded a state holiday announcement on June 10 in Jammu & Kashmir.  June 10 marks the birth anniversary of Sixth Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib.  The letter was written to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Sayeed.

This demand was made by a letter written to the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir by the SGPC President.

Prof. Badungar told Sikh24 that the Sixth King of the Sikhs, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib, has an intimate relationship with the land of J & K.   “Guru Hargobind Sahib visited Jammu and Kashmir during his visits to North, and in his memory many Gurdwara Sahibs are situated in J & K.”  “I have reiterated this to the J & K Chief Minister.   Due to the feelings of Sikhs residing in the state connected with Guru Sahib, June 10 should be declared a state holiday.”

“Just like the days of prophets of other religions, J & K should definitely consider this plea,” he added.

Prof. Badungar expressed the hope that the Chief Minister would pay special attention in this regard. He also said that this will further strengthen our mutual brotherhood in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Prof. Badungar told Sikh24 that Guru Hargobind Sahib’s Parkash anniversary will be celebrated with great devotion by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee on June 10 at Gurdwara Sri Bibeksar Sahib, Sri Amritsar.  “Popular Ragi Jathas, Dhadi and Kavishars will address the congregations.  The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee will also be celebrating the birth annviersary of the Shiromani Bhagat Kabir ji on Friday, June 9, at 10:00 in the Gurdwara Manji Sahib hall, Sri Darbar Sahib, Sri Amritsar.”
