Hailing the SGPCs decision, the Director of Agriculture Department of India Dr. Krishna Chandra said that the SGPCs move will encourage the farmers of Punjab to avoid use of chemicals for farming. He added that the Union government was ready to cooperate with the SGPC by providing training for organic farming to SGPC employees in Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh).
“As Satlani Sahib village has become a model for farmers in this respect, more seminars will be held in future and arrangements will be made to bring more farmers here,” he added.

Vegetables grown in organic way in these fields are used in the free community kitchen of central Sikh shrine. The free community kitchen of central Sikh shrine Sri Harmandir Sahib serves langar to more than 100,000 devotees daily irrespective of their religion, caste, creed, nationality or ethnicity.
