Gurbani Word Of The Day: pasoo-aaraa

ਪਸੂਆਰਾ (pasoo-aaraa)
Meaning: noun: Fisherman.

Quote:
ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨਾ ਹੇਰੈ ਪਸੂਆਰਾ॥ ਸੋਨਾ ਗਢਤੇ ਹਿਰੈ ਸੁਨਾਰਾ॥
jiu meenaa herai pasoo-aaraa. sonaa gaḍhte hirai sunaaraa.

As a fisherman looks for fish, and a goldsmith looks upon the gold he fashions (so do I look for the Divine everywhere). -Bhagat Namdev, Guru Granth Sahib, 873

Message: True meaning of contemplation

A fisherman, a hunter or any fish-eating bird (crane or duck) have their eyes focused on the fish.

A goldsmith likewise looks very carefully at the gold in his hand while making ornaments.

A fisherman prizes the fish he catches as preciously as gold since they are a source of his livelihood,

Similarly our love for the Creator should be like Namdev’s. We should contemplate on the Divine with love and dedication and disallow our mind from straying from the Divine vision.

Our love for divinity and virtues should be sincere and intense. We should try to see the same divine light in every place, every human and everything of nature.

Etymology: Origin obscure, probably from Sanskrit pashuhaarin (fisherman).
