LED light project to illuminate Sri Harmandir Sahib likely to get launched on ‘Vaisakhi’

AMRITSAR SAHIB—The “dream project” of the Apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee of illuminating Sri Harmandir Sahib got its first glimpse on April 11.  A hi-tech LED (Light Emitting Diode) system worth Rupees 130 million has been installed to illuminate the grandeur of the gold-plated central Sikh shrine and its surroundings.

The light effects have been synchronised with the clock to make it start working with sunset and remain glowing till wee hours. In dark, a permanent golden effect would automatically reflect the glory of the sanctum sanctorum whereas the colours keep on changing on the outer boundary of periphery and other structures.

First of its kind in India, the technology has been imported from Germany and Italy. The system is learnt to be capable of emitting various colour effects which can be changed at the click of a button.

Speaking to Sikh24, SGPC’s Chief Secretary S. Harcharan Singh said that the SGPC was aiming to launch it on Vaisakhi but some equipment was still being awaited. He further informed that six projectors have been imported to control the operations and around 600 more LED lights have been ordered additionally to cover some more corners.

“This has been our dream project and we are very happy to see it come to its closure,” he said.

  1. The sikh sangat don’t come to see the light effects, they go there for Guru Sahib. These people are misusing’ guru di golak’ , they should use the money only for religion, education & for the poor.

  2. SGPC what about spending some of the money on the poor and shaheed families but of course you cannot this this far. Harmandir Sahib will always shine and spending this sum – will our Guru Ji be pleased……
