BATHINDA, Punjab—In attempt to corner the propaganda being spread against him, the SGPC appointed Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Giani Gurmukh Singh has sought constitution of committee to probe the entire episode of granting pardon to Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim. He has said that the truth of entire episode ought to come to fore and the guilty persons should be held accountable.

In an open four page letter addressed to the entire Sikh community, he has said that a ‘Maryada Committee’ needs to be constituted so reality of the entire episode could come to the fore.  “In the probe it should also be checked as to which person brought the letter of the cult chief wherein the latter sought apology,” he wrote in the letter.

Shortly after Gurmeet Ram Rahim was pardoned by SGPC appointed Jathedars, Giani Gurmukh Singh was in the middle of the controversy as he was blamed as the middleman between the Sirsa cult chief and Takht Jathedars.  He has however denied these charges.

Refuting the allegations of getting bribed by Shiromani Akali Dal patron Parkash Badal, Giani Gurmukh Singh has said that the ‘Maryada Committee’ should investigate the entire matter.
