Sikhs May Keep Beard in Army – Muslims May Not

NEW DELHI, India—The supreme court of India has decreed that other than Sikhs, no one may keep beards in the army.

The decision comes as a Muslim serviceman in the air-force was dismissed after he kept his beard. He attempted to fight the decision in the courts, arguing that in in order to be fair, since Sikhs were allowed to keep a beard whilst in service, so must he.

He lost the case as the prosecution argued that keeping a beard isn’t a standard requirement for the Islam’s adherents, the court therefore ruled against the serviceman.
