BEADBI: UK Based Dr. Kamalroop Singh Receives Flak for Controversial Wedding in Monaco

MONTE CARLO, Monaco—Pictures have emerged on social media of Dr. Kamalroop Singh (PhD) and some of his associates from the Lion Jatha (UK) taking Guru Granth Sahib Ji to the Opèra Monte Carlo and conducting an Anand Karaj the week of November 1.  Pictures show beadbi (sacrilege) being committed at the Opera House with the attendees sitting on chairs and many people not having their heads covered.  A picture further shows a person named Simran Singh from UK putting his feet on the rumala sahib.

Guru Granth Sahib Ji was brought to the Opera House in direct violation of the 1998 Akal Takht Sahib Hukamnama issued in 1998 restricting all Sikhs from taking Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji to hotels, banqueting suites, bars or any such establishment which serves meat, alcohol and tobacco.   However, in direct opposition to the edict, the saroop was brought from the UK and kept for many days in a hotel room at Le Merdian Hotel in Monte Carlo before the wedding.

Dr. Kamalroop Singh from UK has faced much criticism by the worldwide Sikh Sangat for committing beadbi.  In his posts over social media, Kamalroop Singh has attempted to cite the excuse that the family had to no choice but to book a Casino for an ‘Anand Karaj’ as there is no Gurdwara in Monte Carlo. Rather the truth is transparent that a rich family (Ahluwalia family, former owners of Euro Car Parts) wanted a lavish wedding and the Blue Lion Jatha willingly obliged.

In a post on Facebook, Kamalroop Singh said –

“Vahiguru ji ka Khalsa Vahiguru ji Ki fateh! Recently someone in Monaco got married. There is no Gurdwara there. As the maryada is that a Hotel cannot be used to do parkash of Guru Sahib Ji the Royal Opera House was hired. Five Singhs took Guru Maharaj’s Svari as per maryada to and from London. On both occasions the airport staff allowed us to maintain the maximum level of satkar for Guru Granth Sahib maharaj. A Singh was with Guru ji’s sarup 24 hours a day.

If any mistake were made they were made unknowingly and we have asked Guru Sahib for his mercy and ask the Sangat to please forgive us for those mistakes.

In the Opera Hall every person had their head covered in Guru ji’s presence and had no shoes on at all. No matter if they were staff or not. The family sat on the stage area, however it could not hold everyone. Therefore, chairs were used but they were below Guru Sahib’s palki level, which was specially designed to be higher. We sometimes sit on chairs with Guru ji, on trains, planes and automobiles. As there is no Gurdwara there was no other alternative. But all other maryada was kept, the area was even cleaned with dudh (milk), and all took shoes off and covered their heads.

We are concerned about the elevation of people sitting, are there not balconies in Harmandhir Sahib for sangat to sit and listen to keertan? Do people at the top not walk over Maharajs svari below? Are they not in a higher elevation than Guru Sahib there? Are they really higher than Guru sahib?

Dr. Kamalroop Singh has exercised the excuse that there is no Gurdwara within Monaco, which is true, however, there are many gurdwaras in neighboring Italy, where the ceremony could have been conducted.  Other possibilities include a residence or any other place where alcohol is not served.

The Sikh Rehit Maryada, in Chapter IV, Article V, Point n.,states that no one is allowed to sit on a chair in the divan of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. In picture and within Dr. Kamalroop Singh’s letter, it is obvious that the sangat sat on chairs, and that is in direct violation of Maryada.

Wedding guests can be seen sitting in chairs while ardas in being conducted.

  1. It appears these Singhs sold their soul for some cash, it is as simple as that. Money talks and these Singhs were happy to listen to it….

  2. Thank you very much Simran Singh, Guru & sangat always forgive if the attention was not bad. As sikhs & Sikh principals are being attacked from every corner, sangat is concerned. To sit on chairs before Guru Sahib is not sikhi maryada, every place where Guru is present is Gurdwara not church, just think brother.

  3. Aluwahlia family live in west London.
There was no need for the wedding to be conducted in Monaco.
Sure, have your party in Monaco
SGGS does not need to be commanded to such a journey.

Total foolishness of the Lion Jhata and the family in this endeavor.

I wonder if the Lion jahta would take on such a task on behalf of normaly well off family?

  4. How can you claim you showed utmost respect when you made Guru Sahib fly to an individual’s wedding?! If the individual had respect for Sikhi, if Kamalroop Nang had respect for Sikhi they would have gone to nearby Gurdwaras in Italy or France.

What a joke- we need to stop these Nangs

  5. Kamalroop singh is RSS. Thats why he loves the yogis. They spread things like in ardass sikh acknowledge frminine energy in ardass (bhagauti). That shows his collusion to distort sikhi.

  6. VaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa VaheGuru Ji Ki Fateh. For the sangat who didn’t see the multiple posts of the following message on Facebook and other platforms, das post’s the message here again :

VaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa VaheGuru Ji Ki Fateh

Dear Sadh Sangat Ji… The person in the picture who carried out the beadbi of stepping on sacred ramalla sahib was yours truly das… I humbly ask for the forgiveness of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Sri Guru Shaster Sahib Ji, Sri Guru Khalsa Panth Sahib Ji and anyone else who may be offended.. I assure you that this action was carried out without malice and that it was a genuine mistake that happened during the seva of Guru Ji and Guru Shaster which can hopefully be forgiven.. Das was not trying to walk on or move ramalla sahib ji with feet, but accidentally momentarily stepped and then did maafi ardaas to Maharaj Ji immediately… Please message me if there is anything you would like to discuss or ask..

    Dhan Guru Nanak Bakshley…

In regards to other assumptions made on and to this page. Many of the facts are not correct. For example – no alcohol, meat or tobacco was anywhere near Guru Sahib Ji, neither Guru Granth Sahib Ji or the Anand Karaj went to a casino nor was it ever stated so, all sangat covered their heads and removed shoes in the sacred presence of Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Guru Sahib Ji’s svaari traveled with the upmost respect and maryada at all times with all sevadaar’s reciting Vaheguru whilst keeping 5Singh maryada of chaur sahib-chandani sahib-ghulabdhari water purification-Guruji on sees at all times etc, A private plane was chartered for Guru Sahib Ji’s travel not public transport, no payment was taken by any sevadaar, to name just a few points. Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the Guru Panth Sahib Ji have been asked for their forgiveness for any of the beadbi that did occur. This page is being used as the spearhead of a vicious attack against Dr. Kamalroop Singh Ji and the sevadar’s mentioned and shown within it with the agenda being to destroy them by tarnishing their names. These attacks have been perfectly coordinated with a string of similarly negative propaganda on other social media platforms. The idea is for them to look different and separate from one another to give a sense of magnitude but in actual fact, the perfect synchronisation of the posts shows that there is a coordinated effort of certain individuals and organisations to assert their agenda’s onto the greater sangat.

If the idea is to do something good and positive for Sikhi and the Panth as a whole then why put so much energy into promoting the most negative and hateful propaganda rather than promoting positive achievements or chardikala aspects of it? Any issues could have easily been addressed on a more private platform such as email or personal message. But rather than the approach being a dharmic one, an american election style, mass media, negative spinning marketing campaign is underway to burn everything down. With the grace of Dhan Guru Nanak, sense will hopefully come to those responsible for this and other pages.

If das has offended anyone then please forgive me.

    • They r the ones who teach sikhs acknowledge femine energy when doing ardass (bhagauti).if they can be that lacking in knowledge is it not a case o f donkeys in tigers hide? Not forgetting their complete support for yogi bhajanists.

    • I ask you again why was it necessary for Guru Granth Sahib to travel to the bride and groom? Why did the bride and groom with their wedding party not make the effort to go to the nearest Gurdwara – it seems to be not an issue of expense but rather their convenience.

  7. Wonderful array of excuses, by those who systematically and knowingly breaching the well established, solidified and esteemed custom and practise afforded to the ‘living guru’ who is a sovereign source, higher in wisdom, knowledge and authority than governments, presidents, prime ministers, etc. That the Sikhs have this unique (and some may think overly exclusive) form of reverring (not worship!) the Guru Granth Sahib; is a plain and open fact. It is a positive, evolved, established practise. This is not book worship. It is a supreme, esteemed status given to the phenomenally wonderful and empowering wisdom contained within this collective bani. To the outsider, this will understandably sound abstractual and perhaps incomprehensible. But for the true, intrinsic Sikh consciousness which has been affected and engaged by the gripping, piercing gurbani and the phenomenal connected history and lives of the Ten Gurus; there has emotionally and naturally formed a solid bond and sense of deep affection and esteem for this fountain of life changing, transforming sarbat da bhalla affirmations. Thus, only an authentic Sikh can actually appreciate the sovereign status of the Guru Granth Sahib. To others, it will at best be a ‘sacred book’, only. Directly connected to this, is the subject of those of us who bow to the guru granth sahib by head only, and not by heart. Those of us who pretend to believe in its comprehensive ethics, but fail to practise those in our lives – the distinction between knowing truth and actually living truth. Unfortunately, in the kalyug world of Donald Trumps, Hilary Clintons, Modis, Putins and more; the Guru Granth Sahib’s piercing wisdom and the extra-ordinary status it is given by the Sikhs, will always be an oddity to the wider world. Indeed, the Sikhs are a unique civilisation for multiple reasons! Those who have and will continue to misuse the guru granth sahib as an object of ritualised marriage ceremonies, monotonous religious readings, etc, clearly pretend to believe in the Guru Granth Sahib and no more. They are an ever present quantity of persons, ready to divert and diminish the unique sovereignty of this wholesome body of philosophy, which the physical gurus gave full affirmation to – ‘bani is the guru, and the guru is the bani!’.

  8. The folks who organized this, did so to the best of their ability. Sometimes in the name of “Satkar”/respect we forget that the true purpose of Sri Guru Granth Sahib is to be accessible to guide people in their lives. Why do we make the Guru so inaccessible?

  9. It really is no excuse to say just because there was no Gurdwara in Monte Carlo Guru Granth Sahib Ji had to be installed in an opera house. Surely the bride and groom should move their wedding to where the nearest Gurdwara actually is rather than inflict that ‘inconvenience’ and now indignity they exposed our Guru to in having to come to them. What kind of respect do they have for the Anand Karaj when they cannot even be bothered to make the pilgramage to their nearest Gurdwara, a hundred miles away in Italy, but think instead Guru Granth Sahib should make the pilgramage to where they are? Those who facilitated this farce are coming up with excuses to justify their pay and should readily acknowledge they have brought yet again the sanctity of Sikh marriage into disrepute.

  10. May Vaheguru give them some wisdom, perhaps their blood is also blue. How you can touch rumala Sahib with your foot, if by mistake you put your foot on someone’s clothes, you will say, “sorry”. I feel sorry for these people. If you think you are lion, you will attack sikh principals & wear bana of Guru & no respect for Guru Sahib.

  11. There is no ardas occurring in that picture. That is simply the Granthi Singh giving satkar to Guru Granth Sahib before any of the Anand Karaj proceedings began.
