Bhai Rajoana refuses medical treatment; SGPC Takes Up Legal Battle

balwant-singh-rajoanaAMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, a death row convict in Beant “Singh” assassination case, was taken to the Rajindra Hospital of Patiala by the Jail authorities for his medical checkup. The doctors observed several irregularities in his health following various tests.

Bhai Rajoana had started hunger strike in protest of delay in his execution on November 3.  In a letter addressed to the Sikh masses after starting hunger protest, Bhai Rajoana had slammed SGPC for filing mercy petition before President of India without his consent.

Speaking with Sikh24, Bibi Kamaldeep Kaur Rajoana (foster sister of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana) informed that her brother has refused to take medical treatment. She added that Bhai Rajoana has given a written statement to doctors that he should not be given any medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee has taken up the case to seek mercy petition for Bhai Rajoana and possibly get him released on parole.

Sources have informed that newly appointed SGPC President Kirpal Singh Badungar has started following up legal proceedings of Bhai Rajoana’s mercy petition. It has come to fore that the SGPC President was consulting legal experts regarding mercy petition.

Sikh24 has learnt that the SGPC may appoint a committee to meet Bhai Rajoana in Central Jail of Patiala to further inquire about his demand.
